Ingram / Stevens post a top 10 finish at World Under 21 Beach Championships

Australia’s Alisha Stevens and Rebecca Ingram finished in ninth place at the FIVB Under 21 Beach Volleyball World Championships in Udon Thani, Thailand.

Alisha and Rebecca made it out of the poule stage with a 2-1 victory over China, before being eliminated by Switzerland.

In the men’s, Mark Nicolaidis and James Takken were beaten in the knockout phase by Russia. The Australian pair won the first set before going down in three sets. Russia eventually finishing the world titles in fourth place.

Australia’s Ky Landers and Jarrah Brownhill had a 2-1 victory over China in the qualifying round before losing to Austria.

It was a rewarding week for the development of Australia’s players. It also provided an insight into what is required to be competitive at this world level.

James will now represent Australia at the Asian Under 23 Indoor Championships, while Rebecca will return home before heading back to the U.S. where she is currently based.

The remaining four members of the Australian Under 21 team now head to Switzerland. This is their first stop on the European Tour by the Centre of Excellence programme.
