Austria and Russia - Champions of the inaugural FIVB Snow Volleyball World Tour

The first ever FIVB Snow Volleyball World Tour event went down in history with a bang on the slopes of the Austrian Alps in Wagrain-Kleinarl.

In the men's edition, Austria's Florian Schnetzer, Alexander Huber, Martin Streitfellner and Christoph Dressler came away with the trophy after a 2-0 (15-11, 15-10) win over their compatriots, Felix Friedl, Arwin Kopschar and Maximilian Trummer in the final. Both teams were eagerly cheered on by the home crowd throughout the match, with the bronze medal going to the Russian team - Pavel Rakusov, Yury Bogatov, Nikita Kuzmin and Petr Bakhnar.

Olga Motrich, Anna Romashova, Olga Filina and Polina Lapteva from Russia triumphed with the gold medal in the women's competitions. They lost only one set in their five main draw matches during the tournament, to write their names in the history books of this up-and-coming winter sport. The World Tour silver went to team USA - Karissa Cook, Emily Hartong, Katherine Spieler and Alexandra Wheeler.

Team Argentina made their debut on the snow with Julieta Puntin, Cecilia Peralta, Maria Eugenia and Maria Virginia Zonta on the roster. Together, they completed the podium with bronze medals, earning the first ever snow volleyball medal for Argentina.

For the inaugural FIVB Snow Volleyball World Tour event in Wagrain-Kleinarl, the FIVB had all five continental confederations represented. Cameroon and South Africa as well as Argentina and Brazil put their teams forward with the ultimate goal to win the winter sport medals to their southern nations.

32 teams (17 men's and 15 women's squads), consisting of more than a hundred athletes from 18 different countries representing all five continental confederations, have signed up to play at the second leg of the FIVB Snow Volleyball World Tour in Plan de Corones/Kronplatz, Italy this week.

One of the most decorated players in the history of volleyball and the President of the FIVB Athletes' Commission, legendary Brazilian Giba, came back from his retirement as a professional athlete to take part in the first ever FIVB Snow Volleyball World Tour events!

The next event is in Plan de Corones/Kronplatz, Italy from April 4-7.
