Allysha Sims to join the Australian Volleyball Academy in 2021

The Australian Volleyball Academy (AVA) is excited to announce that Allysha Sims will be joining its AVA athlete Cohort in Canberra for 2021.

The South Australian athlete began playing volleyball in 2012 in a Spike Zone Volleyball program. From there, Allysha’s love for the sport grew, and she went on to represent her state in multiple events including the Australian Junior Beach Volleyball Championships and the Australian Junior Volleyball Championships.

“I’m so excited to go into the AVA training environment” said Allysha on her 2021 AVA signing. “I can’t wait to see where this takes me and my volleyball in the future”

“We are very much looking forward to working with Allysha in Canberra for 2021” said Women’s AVA head coach, Marty Collins.

“I've been impressed not only by Allysha's ball control but by her positive attitude and exemplary teamwork she displays whenever she competes”

In her short career Allysha has already had the incredible opportunity to travel to Thailand, Switzerland, and the Netherlands to play volleyball and was able to experience different volleyball game styles, giving her invaluable experience in the sport.

Allysha notes Australian Beach Volleyroo, MariafeArtacho Del Solar as her biggest volleyball inspiration. Like Mariafe, she hopes to become a Women’s Volleyroo and compete at the Olympics in the future.

“It was pleasing from the conversations that I've had with Allysha just how much she wanted to be a part of our program and the great work ethic I am sure we will see this year coming”, added Head Coach Marty Collins.

Allysha is set to begin her AVA journey when the program starts up in mid-January at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS).
