At Friday’s IOC Session held on-line, Australian Olympic Committee President, John Coates AC was elected as one of two new Vice-Presidents by IOC members,
together with the IOC member from Singapore Ng Ser Miang. Mr Coates was previously IOC Vice-President from 2013 to 2017.
Mr Coates’ new four-year term as Vice-President sees him returned to the IOC Executive Board, which consists of the IOC President, four Vice-Presidents and ten other elected members.
He is also Chair of the IOC Legal Affairs Commission and Chair of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Coordination Commission.
Volleyball Australia President and Australian Olympic Committee member Craig Carracher says John Coates has been a champion of Australian Sport for as long as most athletes, coaches and administrators can remember.
“His contribution and leadership is unparalleled on the global stage. Since 2015, when I joined the board of the Australian Olympic Committee, I have witnessed his enormous capacity for work, intellect and commitment to all sport and its role in our society”.
Mr Carracher says Mr Coates’ importance to Olympic sport is only matched by his importance to all sport and Volleyball continues to benefit from his advocacy.
