Australia’s Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar on the verge of moving into the World top five after winning bronze in China
Australia’s Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar have won bronze at the FIVB 4 Star Xiamen Beach Volleyball World Tour event in China.
Clancy and Artacho del Solar defeated three U.S.A. combinations and one Brazilian team on their way to winning bronze.
The Australians accounted for three-times Olympic gold medallist, Kerri Walsh Jennings, and her partner, Brooke Sweat, 2-1 in the pool round.
Clancy and Artacho del Solar went down to the Czech Republic team of Hermannova and Slukova in two sets in the semi-final before defeating the USA combination of Hughes and Summer 2-0 in the playoff for third.
The victory could lift the Australians into the top five in the world rankings this week.
Their ranking has ensured that they have qualified for the World Championships in Hamburg in July. Their next tournament will be the Asian titles from 9 to 12 May.
Australia fielded seven teams in Xiamen. All except Clancy and Artacho del Solar, head to Kuala Lumpur for the FIVB 3 Star tournament.
