Volleyball Australia High Performance Manager John Boultbee has been appointed as the CEO of the newly established National Sports Tribunal.
John is regarded as one of the world’s leading sports administrators having held a number of high-ranking positions including Secretary General of the International Rowing Federation and Director of the Australian Institute of Sport before joining Volleyball Australia in 2014 as the sport’s High Performance Manager.
He will leave his post at VA later this month with the National Sports Tribunal operational from 19 March.
John has played a significant role across all aspects of volleyball in Australia. “I'm proud to have been involved in Volleyball Australia and sad to be leaving,” said John, “It's a fantastic sport played and administered by wonderful people. The Volleyroos have earned respect and admiration in Australia and worldwide.”
He says there have been numerous memorable moments in Beach Volleyball; “The highlights for me include Chris and Damien's gold and Taliqua and Mariafe's silver medals at the Commonwealth Games and Taliqua and Mariafe's bronze at the World Championships. Both are looking like strong chances for Tokyo.”
John says he has been enormously impressed by the culture within the VA programs; “The men’s Volleyroos are a fantastic team with a really strong team culture which has seen them beat or seriously challenge nearly all of the world's best teams over the last three to four years. And the women Volleyroos resurgence since 2015 and their ascent up the world ranking is very exciting. Above all, they are all fantastic athletes and superb people, coached and supported by world-class staff.
“I'm pleased that recently we have been able to provide all our Volleyroos with well-deserved modest financial support and to make sure the programs are family friendly and supportive,” said John, “I wish them all enormous success up to Tokyo, Birmingham and Paris and will miss their passion, humour and friendship.”
Volleyball Australia CEO Andrew Dee says that Volleyball Australia has been most fortunate to work with a person of John's character; “John has been a wonderful colleague and friend to all of us and will be a hard act to follow. John's expertise and experience is second to none in the world of sport and volleyball has been a huge beneficiary of this. His appointment as CEO of the National Sports Tribunal is appropriate recognition of his high standing.”
