The Australian men’s indoor volleyball team, the Volleyroos, head to Ottawa, Canada. They move to this second weekend of competition with confidence after three tough matches to start their Volleyball Nations League campaign in Poland.
The Volleyroos came up against the top three teams from last year’s World titles going down 3-1 in games against Poland and the United States. The 3-2 loss to Brazil gives cause for optimism with Australia stretching one of the world’s top teams to five marathon sets, with the match breaking the VNL record for the most number of points scored. This was a mammoth 235 points.
This weekend the Volleyroos come up against Canada, Serbia and Germany in Ottawa.
The world’s sixth ranked team, Canada, will present the toughest challenge after the Canadians showed good form on the opening weekend in Poland with wins over Argentina and Portugal, before suffering a 1-3 loss to Bulgaria.
Germany recorded a win over China but went down to Italy and Iran, while Serbia came away from the opening round of matches without a victory, suffering losses to Japan, France and Russia.
Australia’s first game will be against Canada.
