The Australian Women’s Volleyroos have returned to compete in the prestigious VTV Cup in Vietnam for the first time in a number of years.
The Volleyroos received an invite to take part in the tournament organised by the Vietnam Volleyball Federation after winning Szubryt Cup in Poland earlier this year.
The VTV Cup is being used by the Volleyroos as vital preparation for the Asian Championships in Korea later this month.
The Australian team will be missing several key players through injury but coach Marty Collins says it allows an opportunity for other players “ Unfortunately, we have suffered some injuries this International season with captain Kell Lean ruled out of the tournament and the Asian Championships while Kat Jansen is out of the VTV Cup. This means other players receive an opportunity which will no doubt assist us in building depth for the future”.
Three players are making their debut for this tour with Julia Dunning, Rachel Reeve and Harriet Gillson called up.
In the absence of Kell Lean, Jaime-Lee Morrow will captain the team.
Marty Collins says the larger pool draw is pleasing as it gives his side another tough game in preparation for the Asian Championships.
The following players have been selected for VTV Cup in Da Nang, Vietnam
Marty Collins- Head Coach
David Smythe – Assistant Coach
Andrew Hocking – Physiotherapist
Lap Nguyen – Performance Analyst
Julian Coburn – Referee
