Helloworld Travel Volleyroos feature in the latest world rankings

At the Annual Congress of the FIVB, the World Volleyball Federation, the latest world ranking were announced, with the Australian teams – the Men and Women Volleyroos – showing continued progress on the world stage.

The Men Volleyroos are ranked 16th, following their 13th place in the 2018 Volleyball Nations League, and best ever 14th place in the 2018 World Championships. This confirms their participation in the Intercontinental Olympic Qualification Tournament, to be held in August 2019, being the first stage of Olympic qualification for the top 24 teams in the world.

Meanwhile, VA celebrates the significant improvement of our women’s team and women’s program as indicated by their jumping 13 places in world ranking to 30th in the world. This reflects the benefits of more international competition opportunities that have been provided recently (World Grand Prix; FIVB Challenger Cup and Asian events) and the re-establishment of a full time women’s program in Australia (VA AIS Centre of Excellence in Canberra) so that our best players are developed well and playing more on the world stage. The challenge now is to increase the number of players given these competition and development opportunities to improve our depth – even more matches than the 19 played this year, and more players graduating from the C of E to professional clubs and US college opportunities, to increase the pool of women players for our Beach and Indoor Volleyroos teams.

VA President Craig Carracher acknowledged the considerable Investment and commitment of our athletes, coaches, officials, administrators and referees in all our programs, especially the women’s programs.
