The Australian Women’s Volleyroos have completed their tour of Thailand with a 3-0 victory over the Philippines Under 23 National Team.
The Volleyroos also competed in the Sealect Invitational Tournament in Sisaket. Australia was placed in the same pool as Sisaket, a team encompassing most of the Thai national side, fresh from the Volleyball Nations League and Khonkaen Star VC, a top four Thai club team.
The Volleyroos were forced to play two games on the same day in front of capacity crowds in testing conditions, after a scoring error on the opening day resulted in the match against Khonkaen being replayed. Australia went down 3-2 in the replayed match and missed out on making it through to the medal round.
Head coach Marty Collins said the experience will hold his side in good stead heading unto the future; “I was pleased with the way the team dealt with the schedule and the conditions they encountered. It was an important tour that helped build depth in the Volleyroos and has made selection for the upcoming Asian Senior Championships extremely difficult with multiple players performing well.”
Five players and three staff from this tour will now head to Hanoi for the Under 23 Asian Championships.
The rest of the team will head back to Australia before the tour of Vietnam on 1 August.
