EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST IN VOLLEYBALL AUSTRALIA TEAM POSITIONS


 

Volleyball Australia is seeking Expressions of Interest in the following positions with our National Teams (Volleyroos) and Centres of Excellence in 2017.

Medical Staff

The Volleyroos teams are the premier national volleyball teams in Australia. Volleyball Australia is looking to further develop and solidify a high performance sports medicine team consisting of sports doctors and physiotherapists to aid the Volleyroos in their quest for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and beyond.

Principal Medical Officer

We are seeking a suitably qualified sports medicine practitioner to act as our Principal Medical Officer to oversee the medical arrangements for all of our national teams and to ensure that suitable policies in relation to medical matters are in place and properly implemented. This includes responsibility for the medical database of our national team athletes maintained on the Athlete Management System (AIS) across all teams and the Supplements and Medications Register.

The PMO will receive a small honorarium for this work. He or she will be welcome to work on tour with one of the teams for some or all of the tours as appropriate (see below), but this is not an essential part of the role.

Team Doctor for the Volleyroos (Men’s and Women’s National Teams)

We are seeking suitably qualified sports medicine practitioners to act as Team Doctors for our National Teams when they are touring in 2017. We understand that it is not always possible for the one doctor to cover all the tours that the teams are doing, so are happy to work with a team of doctors sharing the tours, and responsible to the Principal Medical Officer. The doctors will share clinical information through the AMS and otherwise.

The tours for which cover is sought are as follows:

Men Volleyroos

World League in Slovakia (1st – 4th June 2017) and Finland (5th to 11th June 2017)

World League in China (13th to 18th June 2017)

World League in Australia (venue to be decided) (20th to 25th June 2017)

World Championships Qualification Tournament in Australia (venue to be decided) (12th to 16th July 2017)

Asian Championships in Indonesia (21st July to 1st August 2017)

Women Volleyroos

World Grand Prix in Mexico (5h to 9th July 2017) and Trinidad (10th to 16th July 2017)

World Grand Prix in Australia (venue to be decided) (19th to 23rd July 2017)

Asian Championships in the Philippines (6th to 17th August 2017)

World Championships Qualification Tournament (venue and date to be decided but probably September)

Team Physiotherapist for the Volleyroos (Men’s and Women’s National Teams)

We are seeking suitably qualified sports physiotherapists to join our Physiotherapy team for both our Men’s and Women’s National Teams whilst touring in 2017 and beyond. We understand that it is not always possible for the one physio to cover all the tours that the teams are doing, so are happy to work with a team of physios sharing the tours, and responsible to the Head Physiotherapist for each team (Darren Austin – Men; Henry Tram – Women). Ideally these positions to be filled will be part time but ongoing in nature.

The successful applicant will provide and develop physiotherapy support services to our high performance athletes. Working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary athlete support team, the positions will underpin strategies to optimise athlete health and wellbeing, to minimise time-loss and maximise performance in training and competition.

Communication and documentation of clinical information between the sports medicine team will be delivered via the online Athlete Management System (AMS) and otherwise.

To be successful in this role, you will require the following skills and qualifications:

  • -Physiotherapy Degree and current registration with AHPRA (essential)
  • -Minimum 3 years experience working as a physiotherapist in high performance sport (essential)
  • -Current Australian Passport (essential)
  • -Previous experience travelling with a sports team nationally or internationally (highly desirable)
  • -Post-graduate Masters in Sports Physiotherapy (desirable)
  • -Experience designing and implementing strength and conditioning programs to athletes, together with strength and conditioning staff (desirable)
  • -A good understanding of load management and its role in high performance sport and athlete wellbeing
  • -Ability to travel for between 2 to 4 weeks away from home

Coaching Staff

Assistant Coach(es) for the Women Volleyroos

We are seeking an Assistant Coach or Coaches for the Women Volleyroos in 2017, to work with the Volleyroos Head Coach, Shannon Winzer. It is preferred to have an Assistant Coach, or Coaches who are available for the whole program, but Expressions of Interest in some of the program activities will be considered.

The activities involved consist of;

Training Camp in Canberra (11th and 12th February 2017)

Training Camp in Canberra (18th and 19th March 2017)

Training Camp in Canberra (22nd and 23rd April 2017)

Training Camp in Canberra (20th and 21st May 2017)

World Grand Prix preparation camp Australia/North America (approx. 27th June to 4th July 2017)

Assistant Coaches for the VA AIS Centre of Excellence

We are seeking Assistant Coaches to work with our Men’s and Women’s Indoor Centres of Excellence in Canberra throughout 2017. Coaches may work with one or other or both teams, but a certain amount of engagement with both teams is expected. These roles are largely professional development opportunities and, apart from a small honorarium, are unpaid. The successful applicants will gain experience working with our Centre of Excellence Head Coaches (Dan Ilott and Shannon Winzer) and with our best young talented players on a sustained basis, as well as occasional experience with our Men and Women Volleyroos teams when they are in Canberra. They will also have the opportunity to engage in the various professional development activities run at the AIS for elite and developing coaches across all sports.

The preference is for coaches who are interested in devoting a year to this role and their own professional development, but shorter periods will be entertained. The Centres of Excellence operate from February to November, with breaks at various times of the year.

Management Staff

Team Manager of the Women Volleyroos

We are seeking a Manager for the Women Volleyroos for their touring this year. The Manager will report to the High Performance Director, and work closely with the Volleyroos Head Coach, Shannon Winzer. This is a voluntary position.

The touring activities are:

World Grand Prix preparation camp Australia/North America (approx. 27th June to 4th July 2017)

World Grand Prix in Mexico (5h to 9th July 2017) and Trinidad (10th to 16th July 2017)

World Grand Prix in Australia (venue to be decided) (19th to 23rd July 2017)

Asian Championships in the Philippines (6th to 17th August 2017)

World Championships Qualification Tournament (venue and date to be decided but probably September)

If possible it is preferred if the Manager is also able to attend the team’s training camps in Canberra as follows:
