The Australian Volleyball Academy (AVA) is excited to announce that Penrhos College student Ella Schabort will be joining its AVA athlete Cohort in Canberra for 2021.
The Western Australia based athlete began playing volleyball at age 12.She began playing for her Penrhos College school team in year eight. Ella was selected for her first state team when she was 13 and has since continued being selected for both indoor and beach state teams.
“This is a terrific and exciting opportunity for me to be able to develop my volleyball skills” said Ella on her 2021 AVA signing. “I can’t wait to train with the top Australian volleyball athletes under the best coaches in Australia”.
Ella’s biggest volleyball inspiration is Women’s Volleyroo and fellow WA athlete, Jen Sadler. Jen coached Ella for the 2019 Australian Junior Volleyball Championships. “She was so inspiring, and I would love to be just like her”, added Ella. Ella’s dream is to play for Australia one day and represent her country at the Commonwealth and Olympic games.
“I'm delighted to have Ella as part of the AVA for next year. She will be our youngest athlete however we will have a strong cohort from the current youth group”, said AVA Head Women’s coach Marty Collins. “Ella has shown great potential in our sport and is very committed to following Volleyball as far as it can take us”.
Ella first heard about the AVA when she attended the 2019 AVA camp after the Australian Volleyball Schools Cup.
Sport plays a huge role in Ella’s life, and from a young age she was involved in Little Athletics and Netball but has now she has found her passion for Volleyball.
Ella is set to begin her journey with the AVA in January 2021.
The primary objective of the Australian Volleyball Academy (AVA) is to identify and develop Olympic potential athletes for Volleyball and Beach Volleyball. It is the High-Performance Development Program for volleyball and beach volleyball athletes who aspire to reach the elite level of their sport.
