The Australian Volleyball Academy is delighted to announce Brendan Garlick as the new Men’s Head Coach of the Australian Volleyball Academy (AVA). Brendan will be based in Canberra at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS).
Brendan has previously worked for Volleyball Australia, coaching at the AVA (formerly the Centre of Excellence) in 2016-2017. He has also worked with several Australian National Teams since 2013, including junior and Senior Men and Senior Women.
“It is marvellous to have Brendan back at the AVA, where he spent time developing his coaching knowledge and skills”, said AVA Program Director, Phil Borgeaud. “He is a high-quality coach and his experience in Europe will add significantly to what we are able to offer our best young athletes.”
Brendan brings a wealth of international coaching experience with him, coaching internationally since 2013. His former roles include head coach from 2017-2018 at Orebro Volley in Sweden, and more recently a role as Head Coach from 2018-2020 with Nordenskov Volley, based in Denmark.
“I’m very excited to be back on home soil, and to be bringing the knowledge I have gained through my international experiences to our future Volleyroos”, said Brendan on his recent appointment.
Brendan commenced his role with the AVA in Canberra at the beginning of July.
The Australian Volleyball Academy would like to officially welcome Brendan back to the Volleyball Australia family.
The primary objective of the Australian Volleyball Academy (AVA) is to identify and develop Olympic potential athletes for Volleyball and Beach Volleyball. It is the High-Performance Development Program for volleyball and beach volleyball athletes who aspire to reach the elite level of their sport.The AVA headquarters and training base are located at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.
