Bawden and Clancy earn Tour Final wild card

CONSISTENT BAWDEN AND CLANCY REWARDED WITH TOUR FINAL WILD CARD

The Australian beach volleyball duo of Louise Bawden and Taliqua Clancy have been rewarded for their strong Olympic showing and their consistent international results with a wild card entry to the prestigious SWATCH FIVB World Tour Finals in Canada.

Bawden and Clancy finished fifth at the Rio Olympics and will join 11 of the best teams in the world to battle out the $500,000 final in Toronto from September 13.

The women’s draw will be headed by Olympic gold medallists Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst, of Germany, and American bronze medallists, April Ross and Kerri Walsh, who defeated Bawden and Clancy in the Olympic quarter finals.

While Bawden and Clancy qualified directly for the 2015 World Tour finals, they missed several tour events this year to concentrate on their Olympic preparation, leaving them just short of the required number of qualification points.

But having finished outside the top ten on only once occasion in their seven appearances in Swatch Major Series events, Bawden and Clancy were in a strong position to earn a wild card entry.

Adelaide-based Bawden and Clancy are two-time Asian champions, and finished fifth at the 2015 FIVB World Championships.

The 2016 SWATCH FIVB World Tour Finals will be held at Polson’s Pier, Toronto, from September 13 to 18.
