Australia's Beach helloworld travel Volleyroos touch down on the Gold Coast

As they walked through the gates of Coolangatta Airport, the four members of the history making Australian Beach Volleyball team, knew it was all becoming real and they could hardly contain their excitement.

“I’m so excited to finally be here and back home too so its really nice to be back” said Queensland born Taliqua Clancy.

Clancy’s on court partner Mariafe Artacho del Solar was also bubbling with the realisation that their hard work had finally got them to this moment.

“Yes Im so excited to be here, I can feel the energy from everyone. I can’t wait to get to the athletes village and see it all as well.”

After many months of build up, the first mens and womens team to represent Australia at Commonwealth Games were just keen to soak it all up.

“For sure! Once we get into the village and we get down to the courts tonight it’ll be more real, every time it’ll get a little more real until we start.” Said Damien Schumann.

Schumann’s team mate Chris McHugh agreed this was an exciting time for the sport of beach volleyball.

“You can feel the real vibe and energy going on. It’s a real privilege to always represent Australia and hopefully we can do good things in the coming weeks.” Said McHugh.

After being greeted at the airport by officials the team headed straight to the athletes village to check in to their rooms, get their uniforms fitted and be officially inducted into the Australian Commonwealth Games team.

Then the men wasted no time getting down to business with a 45 minute bus trip back to Coolangatta for their first taste of the purpose built stadium with an evening training session.

The women will have their first look at the stadium early tomorrow morning.

“Ive only seen photos and videos of the stadium on social media. The Canadians are already here so Ive seen their posts, it looks amazing so Im just excited to finally get out there.” Said Clancy.

Beach Volleyball tickets are the most sort after at these Games with all sessions selling out some time ago.
